New Library Director Selected

Andrew Kim

(February 18, 2016)  At its February 17 meeting, the Glencoe Library Board approved the appointment of Andrew Kim as executive director of the Glencoe Public Library. Mr. Kim will step into the position on March 14, replacing Teri Hennes, a longtime library employee who has served as interim director since the resignation of Juli Janovicz in September 2015.

Mr. Kim is currently the assistant director of the Northbrook Public Library, a post he has held for two years.

“We’re delighted to have Andy as our new executive director,” said Board president Teresa Grosch. “He’s highly qualified, very patron-oriented, values our staff, and realizes the importance of our library in the community. The Board thinks he will be an excellent fit for Glencoe.”

A native of Morton Grove, Mr. Kim is a graduate of Loyola Academy and the University of Illinois-Chicago. He earned a master’s degree in library and information science from Dominican University in 2009. His library career began at the Glenview Public Library, where he worked in circulation and readers’ advisery. In 2009, he joined the Northbrook Public Library as a multimedia librarian responsible for the popular music collection and was promoted to assistant director in 2014. He resides in Northbrook with his family.

Mr. Kim said he feels “blessed and fortunate” to join the staff at the Glencoe Library. He doesn’t foresee immediate changes. “The onus is on me to adapt to the library’s existing culture and get up to speed with each department’s work, upcoming projects, and the direction the Board wants us to go,” he said.

“I don’t see this position as a stepping stone to a bigger library,” said Mr. Kim, adding that he considers his new job his final professional destination.
