ECLIPSE GLASSES ALERT

In the past few weeks, the Glencoe Public Library distributed 130 pairs of eclipse glasses that were ordered in June from Amazon and were advertised as ISO certified. Unfortunately, we have since learned from Amazon that Amazon has issued a warning regarding glasses (including the glasses that we purchased from them) that have not been verified as being ISO compliant. Amazon is warning people not to use these glasses. Using glasses that are not ISO-compliant may damage your eyes if used to view the sun. If you received orange glasses marked “SolarEclipseGlasses2017.com” (see photo), DO NOT use them to view the sun. For a list of vendors approved by the American Astronomical Society, see https://eclipse.aas.org/resources/solar-filters. For alternative ways of safely viewing the eclipse, see https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety.

If you have any questions, please call us at (847) 835-5056. Ask for Becky Halcli, Grace Hayek, or Liz McClain.
