Excerpts Sept15 coverOur quarterly newsletter is now available online! Don't miss all of the exciting programming planned at the library this Winter! Upcoming events include an author visit from Madeleine Plonsker to present a program on Cuba, our Writers' Open Mic series will feature two events dates, one in January and February. We also featured a new Glencoe Academy online training program to help you learn more about our resources at your own pace! We have a wonderful family program about the North Pole as well as a tasty event feature Chocolates from around the world! Glencoe residents will receive the next issue of Excerpts in the mail but you can access it online right now!



Friends of the Library Fall Musical Concert


Join us for live music performed by the Guadajnini String Quartet at the library Sunday November 15 at 5pm. The library will close early at 4pm, with the doors reopening for concert seating at 4:30pm. This wonderful fall musical event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. 



Packed house for our Booknews Discussion


Thanks to all who came for our Booknews Discussion held at Books On Vernon Bookstore here in Glencoe. We had over 40 people visit us as we gave reviews on new and upcoming releases to keep an eye out for your next great read. We meet quarterly, with time beforehand for networking and conversations over appetizers before the presentation, roughly lasting an hour. Our next date has not been scheduled but stay tune for more info in the coming months. Couldn't make it to our event? No worries, the titles discussed can be found here   



Join us Halloween Day for our Haunted Library Fest!

BOO! Watch out for ghosts when you visit the library for a special Haunted Library festival! Drop in wearing your best costume for fun games, crafts, and activities, and be ready to be spooked! Need help finding that next page turner? Have an interest in a good non fiction but don't know where to start? Let us help you find that next read with our new online eRA Form. Take a moment to fill our your reading preferences, who you enjoyed in the past and who didn't work for you. We will dig in, and relay back some titles we think would be sure winners. We will even put the books on hold for you, saving you time for more reading! To get started just follow HERE



Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale



The Friends of Glencoe Public Library present their Fall Used Book Sale. Featuring items for all ages, including books, movies and cd's. Sale starts Saturday October 17th and carries on all weekend until Noon on Monday October 19th. Come find that special item to give as a gift, add to your collection or just find a good read for the weekend!



Bob Boone's Appreciating the Short Story Course



Starting Tuesday, October 13 the library will host a 5 week course hosted by Bob Boone. The course titled "Appreciating the Short Story" will delve into some of the best American short stories from past and present. A local author, Bob Boone has written numerous works and founded the Chicago Authors group to offer opportunities to young writers in the city. Registration is required for these highly anticipated seminars. Sessions are weekly, each Tuesday from 1-2:30pm starting October 13th and ending November 10th. 2015 Harvest Fest

Trustee Teresa Grosch joined our librarians at this year's Harvest Fest. We had a blast hosting a table filled with giveaways and games for the kids. Looking forward to next year!

Visit us at Harvest Fest!

Harvest FestLibrary staff will be out and about at Glencoe’s Harvest Fest in Kalk Park on Saturday, October 3. Be sure to visit our table between 2-4pm for fun games and prizes for all ages. See if you can “Stump the Librarian” with your challenging questions, or try your luck with a duck in our “pond.” Sign up for our email newsletter and be entered to win a Kindle Fire HDX! Author Visit: Fern Schumer Chapman visits GPL

Fern Schumer Chapman, author of the middle school historical novel Is It Night or Day? and adult novel Motherland, visits the library to talk about writing and her newest book, Like Finding My Twin, a story about compassionate eighth graders who reunited two Holocaust refugees.
