March Spring 2016 Excerpts is Here!

This spring comes in with a buzz of excitement as we welcome a new director in addition to a slew of new programming. Device Advice is a new series that welcomes anyone with questions regarding devices or technology. This is a drop-in session held on select evenings and Saturday afternoons in the Hamil room. March features our visiting professor series that will highlight the Terracotta Warriors and Quantum Computing. Saving the planet isn't easy but we will learn the tips on Recylcing in Glencoe come early April. Our Author Events, feature Justin Peters a local native who discusses his work The Idealist and the struggle over control of information. We have our weekly sing-a-longs as usual but something is up our sleeve as we present an exciting new Magician event for the whole family! Fans of Downton Abbey will love our costume event that discusses the secrets behind creating the vintage attire seeon on the show. With photos mentioned in the New York Times and Newsweek, Photographer Marisa Scheinfeld discusses the Borscht Belt of New York. Can't have spring without animals. Learn the life of Chickens, and watch our farm puppet show. All these events and much, much more in our latest Excerpts.

New Library Director Selected

Andrew Kim

GLENCOE PUBLIC LIBRARY SELECTS ANDREW KIM AS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

(February 18, 2016)  At its February 17 meeting, the Glencoe Library Board approved the appointment of Andrew Kim as executive director of the Glencoe Public Library. Mr. Kim will step into the position on March 14, replacing Teri Hennes, a longtime library employee who has served as interim director since the resignation of Juli Janovicz in September 2015.

Mr. Kim is currently the assistant director of the Northbrook Public Library, a post he has held for two years.

Success! Thank you to the attendees as well as our host, Books on Vernon Bookstore. We had another great turnout, over 50 people joined us in attendence to hear about the hottest books of 2016 so far. Our list comprised of wonderful works from coming of age character stories to page turning thrillers. Stay tuned for our next discussion coming in a few months. Study Room Updates

Mini Projectors

Our study rooms are now offering supplies to help your group needs. Available for checkouts for Glencoe residents, are mini projectors. Can check one out for in library use or to take with you for 7 days. A dry erase whiteboard is now in the Hamil study room. Equipped with markers and eraser.

Adult Winter Reading Club: Around the World in 56 Days!

Reading Club

Travel around the world without ever leaving home this winter by joining the Glencoe Public Library Winter Reading Club! The theme this year is Around the World in 56 days.

Sign up starting January 9, 2016 and read 6 books (or watch 6 dvd’s, or listen to 6 audiobooks!) by March 6th and a great finishing prize can be yours! Book lists will be available to help you choose your titles. There will be a sign up prize of a book light to help you read through the dark winter months and weekly prizes to keep you motivated. You do not have to live in Glencoe to participate

The

Need a fun boost for the holiday reading to continue? How about some fun activities to entertain the family while on break? Join the Winter reading club, with this year's theme Polar Pages! Earn rewards for reading and doing fun actitivities at home and at at the library. Stop by the Youth Department to get started with your take home reading log and a sign up prize!

Join us Sunday, December 13th at 2pm as we welcome one of Glencoe's very own, Gabe Polsky. An award winning director/producer, who presents us with a screening of his critically acclaimed documentary Red Army. An inside look at the Cold War from the eyes of the USSR's famous hockey team.
