you will be my friendYou Will Be My Friend!  by Peter Brown

Lucy is an irrepressible young bear with some boundary issues. In You Will Be My Friend! she is determined to find a new friend to do cartwheels, have picnics, go swimming, and have a dance party with. Unfortunately, things seem to always go hilariously wrong. Some animals just don’t want to be her friend. Even worse, when she tries to make friends with bees, she eats their house. But don’t worry, the story ends with friendship found – whew!

Children Make Terrible Pets by Peter Brown

If you want more Lucy, I also recommend her first adventure, Children Make Terrible Pets, in which she discovers that having a pet child is more trouble than she expected.

Illustrations feature expressive voice bubbles, à la Mo Willems, and sly pictorial humor. These great read alouds are sure to delight kids in search of a funny story. Be ready with two voices – one for Lucy and one for the narrator.
